Shoals to Hindostan Falls Trip Summary
This is the best summer/fall kayak adventure in Indiana.  This is a big adventure, and our staff favorite. It is remote, scenic, with 30′ limestone bluffs along the river, and has a lot of wildlife along the way.  We typically do this trip guided, but expewrienced kayakers can go unguided also.
We offer this trip anytime April 1- November 30 each year, when river levels are low enough, but we really focus on this trip from August 1 through November 30.  When everything else in indiana is low or dry, this stretch is amazing.
The story of the pioneer town of Hindostan along the Buffalo Trace Trail, is amazing as well.
We try to get you started by 9:00 on this trip due to its length.  14.5 miles, typically 5.5 to 8 hours depending on current velocity.
You will see several bald eagles and you have a high likelihood of seeing otters on this trip.
1/10 mile after launching paddlers have to negotiate the “shoals”, that the town is named for.  This is a choppy, rock garden where  you must keep the front of your boat headed downstream to avoid capsizing (you only capsize is sideways to current).  Picking a clecan line and going single file is important here.
